Additional Information
In the face of uncertainty due to the ongoing COVID, The Florida Nurse Practitioner Network has made the difficult decision to switch to an entirely virtual format for our annual conference versus a LIVE event. Other than connecting from the comfort of a location of your choosing, the conference will remain very much the same. We are still planning a full and varied educational event!
We are working diligently on the current logistics of this event to be held during the planned times of August 26-28, 2021. We are planning to provide a virtual conference during this time as we feel most people already have the time off and this will allow us to have some time together. We are exploring the possibility of recording the event as well to have available for a limited time to our members.
Detailed information will be forthcoming in the next few days as we prepare for this event. If you are already registered for the general session conference, there is nothing further you would need to at this time. A link to join in virtually will be sent to you. We are working on the pre-conference sessions and will update those attendees shortly on the process and what will be offered and when.
Your room reservations will be automatically cancelled through our group reservation system. We have had a couple inquiries from attendees to possibly still keep their room reservations for personal travel and we are in communication with the host hotel on this opportunity and what steps you would need to take. We will update you as soon as we have direction from the hotel.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause however, our hope is that you will be able to move forward with our planned virtual event to be held on the same dates and times. ZOOM information to follow.
REGISTRATION IS STILL OPEN FOR THE VIRTUAL CONFERENCE
The Salvation Army Orlando Women’s and Children’s Shelter, is a 62 bed facility providing safe emergency shelter to women and their children experiencing homelessness. Through partnerships with Housing and Urban Development and the Veteran’s Administration, they are able to offer supportive programs to assist families in the transition back to stable housing, including special assistance for our central Florida female vets.
Since the start of the COVID pandemic, the shelters have witnessed a huge decline in donations of essential items. Our community is trying to maintain stability themselves, therefore are unable to provide to those who are most vulnerable. Our world is starting to see a new face of homelessness and The Salvation Army continues to adapt on a daily basis. The Salvation Army has had to increase its budget to make sure there is funding available to ensure their clients continue to have a clean, safe place to sleep, hot meals every day and access to the resources needed to help them regain stability.
During our annual membership meeting , FNPN traditionally holds donations to benefit local charities. Unfortunately, the pandemic has changed those plans and instead we are asking our members to donate to the state affiliated Salvation Army Women’s and Children’s Shelter via the link below. During these most challenging times, we recognize the hardships our communities are facing and we hope that you will contribute to help those in need.
Thank you again !

Breakout 2A - Breaking the Barriers: Addressing the Needs of Families of Children with Complex Medical Conditions
Stacia M. Hays, DNP, APRN, CNE, CCTC, FAANP
1.0 CE CreditChildren with complex medical conditions (CMC) is a growing population in the United States and accounts for up to 70% of all pediatric healthcare costs. With the extensive needs of this population, gaps in care may occur including disjointed care, barriers to services and difficulty in transition of care to adult providers. These gaps create challenges and barriers which significantly impact families and lead to mistrust of the healthcare system. The family response is often interpreted as nonadherence to care and leads to fractured relationships between providers and families. This presentation will guide the advanced provider in recognizing and understanding these challenges and provide guidance on conversations and interventions to assist and empower these families within the healthcare system.

Breakout 2C APRN Gerontological Nursing Pearls for Practice
George Peraza-Smith, DNP, APRN-C, GNP-BC, GS-C, CNE, FAANP
1.0 CE CreditThis presentation will provide an update to gerontological advanced nursing practice and to showcase evidence-based practice pearls for APRNs working with older adults. Older adults 65-years and older account for 30-40% of primary care visits. By 2050, the older adult population 65 years and older is expected to grow to nearly 90 million. By 2060, nearly one in four Americans will be 65 years and older, the number of 85-plus will triple, and the country will add a half million centenarians. Older adults carry a significant portion of the chronic disease burden with 60% of older adults having at least two chronic conditions. Four chronic conditions-heart disease, cancer, stroke, and diabetes—cause almost 2/3 of all deaths each year. At the same time there are a growing number of older adults who are living longer and who are living healthier than previous generations. This presentation will focus on the impact of age-related change on common chronic conditions in older adults and provide clinical pearls.
