UPDATE: Controlled Substance Prescribing

Posted over 9 years ago by Janet DuBois

On March 25th Governor Rick Scott signed the Ordering of Medication Bill (HB 1241) authorizing NPs and PAs to prescribe certain medications, including controlled substances, within a facility. This is NOT the controlled prescribing bill (HB423) that authorizes NPs and PAs to prescribe controlled substances within their non-facility based practice (clinic, private practice, etc).

HB423 is still being reviewed by the Senate and has not reached the Governor's desk yet. Once it does, the Governor has 15 days to sign it into law or veto it. (If he doesn't sign it within the 15 days from the time it reaches his office and he doesn't veto the bill, it automatically becomes law). It is anticipated that the law will become effective January 1, 2017.

We will post new information as we receive it.
