THIS WEEK IN REVIEW:
This week marks the end of the 5th, and final, committee week of 2019. Next week is an off week and then the 2019 Legislative session starts on Tuesday, March 5. Appropriations and bills are still coming out of bill drafting and being referenced to their committees. We expect the Speaker to unveil some large package bills with his priorities soon.
In statewide news, Visit Florida announced this week that 126.1 million individuals from out of state came to visit Florida in 2018. This record exceeds 2017’s 118.8 million visitors by 6.2 percent. Travel at Florida airports also increased by 7.6 percent, with 93.9 million airline passengers in 2018. In addition, Governor DeSantis named the final four replacements to the Southwest Florida Water Management District. After mismanagement, the Governor removed the board which has oversight over the Everglades
SB 188, Department of Health, passed unanimously in the Appropriations Subcommittee on Health and Human Services and is now waiting to be heard by the Appropriations Committee.
There are currently 1,300 bills that have been filed, and 1,520 appropriations bills that have been filed with more coming out of drafting daily. Appropriations project requests are a total of $3,172,450,310 to date. As always, we will keep you updated as legislation moves.
