Welcome to 2020 the Year of the Nurse

Posted over 4 years ago by Regina Pommer

Happy New Year – The World Health Assembly has declared 2020 as the year of the Nurse, in honor of Florence Nightingale’s 200th birthday. FNPN continues to work hard for policy change for Florida’s Advanced Practice Nurses? How about you? Are you a member and part of the driving force or are you sitting on the sidelines hoping that full practice authority happens? Being a member and contributing to your statewide APN group is one of the best investments you can make. Why you ask? Well here are some reasons why:

New Initiatives

FNPN has some new initiatives in 2020.

1.CE Courses- We have again collaborated with Florida Hospital Association and revised/updated the Controlled Substance Prescribing CE course. Remember you must meet the Florida Board of Nursing requirement for 3.0 continuing education hours of controlled substance education in each biennial license renewal.

In addition, we will be offering a 2 hour online Human Trafficking CE course. These 2 courses are the only mandatory CE requirements APRNs must demonstrate are met for license renewal as long as you maintain national certification.

  1. NP Boot Camps designed for the novice/advanced beginner NP these workshops will focus on the tools NPs need to successfully transition to the profession. Stay tuned for more information but do Save the Dates – March 28th at the University of Tampa or April 18th at Florida Atlantic University.
  2. Region Directors-Florida is a very large state geographically, which makes it difficult to connect or network easily. We broke the state into 5 regions with each region having its own director. Please visit the website to find your region and director. These will be your point of contact for FNPN so please do contact them for questions or concerns.
  3. Members-only section

Benefits of Membership

By joining FNPN, you become a part of a network of thousands of nurse practitioners who have made a personal commitment to their high level of professional standards, to their careers and to their profession. We are very proud to support nurse practitioners and nurse practitioner students by providing them with valuable services, resources, educational and networking opportunities they need to be successful.

Professional Advocacy

Professional Advocacy is the cornerstone of FNPN since its inception in 2002. Over the years FNPN has worked diligently to improve patients' access to care and remove barriers to NP practice. Through our national affiliations, we help resolve federal barriers to practice. Your membership will help you to protect your practice and your profession.

Education and Networking

Local Membership There are four regions and approximately 30 local groups to serve our members.  They are staffed by nurse practitioner members who volunteer their time to provide leadership, education, meetings, teaching events and more. Your colleagues are often your best source of insight and a range of expertise. FNPN can assist you in finding your local group and the opportunity to connect with nurse practitioners and other professionals across town and around the state. The leadership of local groups receives free registration for FNPN annual conference to help us stay connected. Last year we implemented Regional Representatives so we know have better resources and support for local groups

Education FNPN offers conferences, events, and meetings at state, local and regional levels. Our annual conference is attended by hundreds of NPs and our members receive preferred pricing.

Networking Opportunities Connect with NPs and other professionals at our state and regional conferences, local chapter meetings and events, or visit us on Facebook and Twitter. Networking brings about many possibilities!
