Happy National Nurse Practitioner Week!

FNPN would like to thank all nurse practitioners across the state of Florida for the care you provide to your patients. Thank you to NPs working in primary care and specialty practice. Thank you to NPs caring for patients in urban and rural locations. Thank you to NPs who work in clinical practice, research, and education. Thank you to NPs that go the extra mile through volunteerism, precepting, and serving on boards.

Governors across the US have issued proclamations for 2021 National NP Week. Please see the attached Proclamation from Florida's governor!

In honor of NP Week, FNPN has scheduled several events.

  • On Monday, November 8, 2021, from 8-9 pm, we will have a virtual presentation of a recently produced historical video with reflections of Florida APRNs who helped change Florida legislation.  Kim Curry, FNPN member, and AANP Journal editor, will introduce her recent history research project in collaboration with Dr. Carolyn Torre. The event is open to all FNPN members. Please visit fnpn.org to register.
  • On Tuesday, November 9, 2021, from 7-8 pm, FNPN’s Regional Directors will hold their quarterly FNPN Leaders' Meeting. These meetings are open to individuals across the state who are in leadership roles. Our guest speaker will be AANP president April Kapu.
  • Later this month, on November 20, 2021, from 9AM-1PM, FNPN is inviting you to attend a virtual wellness retreat. FNPN has negotiated a reduced rate of $22 for any member who would like to attend. https://www.eventbrite.com/e/mind-body-thrive-lifestyle-virtual-wellness-retreat-tickets-180494613247?discount=NURSE-SELFCARE
  • Also, please send us any photos of your local NP Week events!

Over the next 5 days, we would like to give a “shout-out” to a NP from each of our 5 regions who has gone “above and beyond”.

NP Region 1

Monica Barfield, MSN, APRN, AGACNP-BC, FNP-BC

As an autonomous NP, Monica Barfield, MSN, APRN serves the health needs of more than 50% of the population in her rural community and her practice is still growing. She’s only been open for about a year and a half and is already needing to expand with another adult NP and a pediatric NP. She keeps a very busy schedule and on a daily basis has more calls from patients needing to get established than slots permit. She is bringing much-needed NP-led care to this rural community devastated by Hurricane Michael in 2018.
Monica has been interested in rejuvenating the local NP council by bringing together nurse practitioners in her community and surrounding communities. She is connecting with her colleagues in the area. She recognizes the value and impact that nurse practitioners can make with their legislators and influencing policy!
It is no wonder that she has been selected as the AANP Florida State Awardee for NP Excellence for 2021! She will be celebrated along with all the others from the other 49 states when AANP meets in Orlando at next year's 2022 conference which will also be FNPN’s 20th Anniversary year of supporting Florida NPs.
Monica is a mover and a shaker! So proud of her !!!
