Urgent information regarding Workshop Discussion in Tallahassee tomorrow 11/14
Posted almost 2 years ago by Vicky Stone-Gale
Florida Nurse Practitioner Network is aware of a workforce discussion being held tomorrow on "Issues Relating to Shortages of Health Care Professionals" and we have been discussing this with our lobbyist Allison Carvajal.
This is not related to a new issue as there was a bill with this same content last year--HB1193. The bill was never heard last year and we anticipate the same this year. Allison has asked FMA about their thoughts and they are not behind this bill, in fact it was not liked by anyone. FNPN takes the stance at this time and on suggestion of our lobbyist that we do not support bombarding the legislators at the Capital regarding this and it is not the time to address this in a committee that is not even hearing the issue. Doing so could do more harm than good. There are too many practices owned by entities and other health care providers other than physicians, that it is unlikely the legislature would make this change at this time.
We have also found out the schedule is full and there will likely be no opportunity for public comment in tomorrows workshop. At this time the committee will hear no filed legislation tomorrow. This is a discussion with a panel and the legislators. If not on the panel you likely will not have an opportunity to be heard.
Respectfully,
