The Improving Care and Access to Nurses (ICAN) Act promotes patient access to health care services delivered by the provider of their choice by removing outdated Medicare and Medicaid barriers on NPs and other advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs). Currently, NP's can not order Hospice and must refer to an MD or DO to do so. This bill would authorize NPs to order cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation, refer patients for medical nutrition therapy, certify and recertify a patient's terminal illness for hospice eligibility, and more.
