Help us Pass Protection from Surgical Smoke Legislation this Session

SB 152 - Protection from Surgical Smoke will be discussed during the Senate Health Policy Committee Meeting on Tuesday February 18 at 1:45 p.m. ET. 

As part of FNA’s 2025 Legislative Agenda, we are fully committed to supporting the passage of this important legislation.

How You Can Get Involved to Help Move This Bill Forward:

1. Attend Committee Meeting in Tallahassee

When: Tuesday, February 18, 1:45 p.m. - 3:45 p.m. ET

Where: Senate Health Policy Committee Meeting, Pat Thomas Committee Room, 412 Knott Building, Tallahassee, FL

How You Can Help:

  • If you live in the Tallahassee area, attend the meeting and consider testifying before the committee, particularly if you are an OR nurse.
  • Nurses who cannot testify are encouraged to attend in their white lab coats to visually demonstrate support for the bill.

2. Call and Email Your Legislators to Ask for their Support

Who to Contact: If you have a Senator on the committee from your area, please reach out to them. (See committee list below.)

Steps to Take:

  • Call: Use the talking points provided as a guide, but speak in your own words.
  • Email: After your call, send a follow-up email to both the legislator and their staff, including a copy of the talking points.

Tips for Effective Communication:

  • Be humble, kind, and polite.
  • Maintain a positive tone.
  • Personalize your message—don’t read directly from the talking points.
