DNP Project Invitation- You are Invited to Participate

Posted about 9 hours ago by Regina Saunders

Good afternoon Florida Nurse Colleagues,

My name is Cherlexia Manarino, a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) student at the University of South Florida. As part of my DNP scholarly project, I am proposing a statewide policy initiative to strengthen trauma-informed care (TIC) education for Florida nurses.

Why is this important?
Trauma is a significant public health issue that impacts patient outcomes, workforce resilience, and overall healthcare quality. Yet, Florida currently has no mandated TIC training for nurses, leaving many unprepared to recognize and respond to trauma in care settings.

To address this gap, my proposal seeks to amend Florida Statute 464.013(3) to include a 2-hour trauma-informed care continuing education requirement as part of the existing licensure renewal process. This amendment is evidence-based, cost-neutral, and designed to improve patient safety, nurse competence, and well-being.

What does participation involve?
    •    Reviewing the brief and full proposal.
    •    Completing a brief (3–5 minute) survey to provide feedback on the policy’s clarity, feasibility, and impact.

Your input is invaluable in ensuring this initiative is stakeholder-informed, practical, and equitable. Participation is voluntary, and responses will remain confidential.

Survey Link (3–5 minutes): Complete the Survey
(The survey link also includes access to the brief and full proposal for your convenience.)

Thank you for considering this opportunity to help strengthen trauma-informed nursing practice across Florida. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at cmanarino@usf.edu.

Warm regards,
Cherlexia Manarino
