Florida Center for Nursing needs your support!

 Prior to fiscal year 2010-2011, the Florida Center of Nursing was funded through a state budget line item allocation. Due to Florida's economic crisis, this funding stream was eliminated for the 2010-2011 fiscal year. In order to insure the Center's continued existence, we are asking you to support HB 327 sponsored by Representative Luis Garcia and a companion Senate bill being filed by Senator Nan Rich that will change how the Center is funded and establish sustainable funding. The proposed legislation would add a $5.00 assessment to each nursing license renewal or issuance fee. This $5.00 would then be transferred directly to the Center to support its work. 

So, what are the next steps? Members of the Center's Board of Directors and staff spent the past few days in Tallahassee meeting and talking with legislators and their staff. However, elected leadership MUST hear from their constituents who live in their districts and from those who will be directly affected by the fee assessment. Please ask your members to join a letter writing campaign to seek support for these bills.

 The elected leadership listed below need to know that you support continuing the work of the Center and are willing to pay an additional $5.00 every two years to fund it; we need you to write five (5) letters. And, they need to be individual letters - not one letter signed by 20 nurses. And they need to be written now. Information sheets and a sample letter are attached to this message which you can modify to fit your style and send to each of the following either electronically or by traditional mail:
