FNPN Succeeds in Removing New Florida NP Practice Restriction

Posted over 12 years ago by Regina Pommer

The legislature has recently passed several bills in attempts to stop the abuse of prescription controlled substance medications and Oct 1st began the Prescription Drug Monitoring Program using the E-FORCSE, Florida’s Prescription Drug Monitoring Program.  By now, you should have received your invitation to register for access.  FNPN quickly discovered that a DEA number was required to request an account to access the database!  FNPN notified the Department of Health regarding the restriction for NPs and reminded them we are patient providers who need this information and it was swiftly corrected!  The 11,000+ NPs in Florida will now be able to gain access to this important information! We hope each and every one of you will all sign up today and let the Department of Health know that nurse practitioners need to be able to practice to their full educational preparation in order to provide the solution to Florida's healthcare crisis.

You can see the press release about this new law and database at  http://www.hidinc.com/flpdmp and view the Practitioner and Pharmacist Training Guide for step-by-step instructions on how to request access as well as how to request a patient advisory report.
