HRSA Nursing Scholarship Program

Posted almost 12 years ago by Regina Pommer

The 2012 application cycle for the Nursing Scholarship Program (NSP) opens today. Please help us spread the word about the program. If you are familiar with the NSP, you will notice program modifications that have been put in place to meet the needs of the nursing profession and to ensure support for communities with the greatest need.

The NSP provides scholarships to nursing students in exchange for a minimum 2-year full-time service commitment (or part-time equivalent), at an eligible health care facility located in a primary care or mental health Health Professional Shortage Area also known as Critical Shortage Facility. While in school, NSP participants receive tuition and fees, an annual payment for other reasonable costs to cover expenses for books, clinical supplies, and instruments, and a monthly stipend to cover living expenses.

For 2012, the program is adapting to the increasing demand for nurse practitioners by reserving up to half of the award funds for students pursuing a master’s level nurse practitioner degree.

As in previous years, the NSP is expected to be highly competitive. If there are more qualified applicants than available funding, the NSP will prioritize applications based upon the level of financial need of the applicant.

The deadline to apply is May 8, 2012, at 5pm ET. Please help us spread the word to potential applicants. To learn more about NSP eligibility and requirements, Please Click Here
