BREAKING NEWS: LANDMARK CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE BILL PASSES
Posted over 9 years ago by Janet DuBois
The Barbara Lumpkin Controlled Substance Bill passed the House and Senate and is on it's way to the Governors desk to be signed into law!
Finally, after 20+ years, NPs and PAs will have the authority to prescribe controlled substances. As the last state in the country to pass such legislation, Florida NPs can finally join our colleagues across the nation in having the ability to provide a full complement of medications to our pateints!
Please join us in giving our sincere thanks and gratitude to Allison Carvajal (FNPN lobbyist) and Martha DeCastro (FHA lobbyist) who worked tirelessly, nights, weekends etc.to make this happen! Without their efforts on our behalf, this would not have happened!
Please join us in thanking the bill sponsors Senator Grimsley and Representative Pigman for their enduring commitment and passion to improve healthcare access in the state of Florida.

Hello Fellow ARNP's:
The great news is that as you know these bills have passed the FL House and Senate but the show is not over until the "fat lady sings"… That means Gov. Scott must sign our bills before they become law.
Many believe that he will sign - BUT - wouldn't you kick yourself if he did not and you did not email him to do so?
Simply Google "Gov. Rick Scott Contact" and fill out the form with your name, address and the bill numbers as above and keep message simple - to Sign Yes to our bills to promote improved access to healthcare for all Floridians.
Thank you!
Laura Bailey, ARNP
This is beyond amazing!! My sincere honor and thanks to all that worked so very hard for so long!!!! This will change the practice of NPs immensely! It is one of the essential practice restrictions that prohibited us from delivering the necessary overall care to our patients. History in the making!
Good point, Michelle!
p.s. the bill numbers are: HS 423 and SB 676
Congratulations Follow Nurse Practitioners: Finally, after 20+ years, we can't believe it! we proclaimed our pride! we declared our independence! Thanks to everyone who worked tirelessly to make this unforgettable moment possible. Herard LaFrance, ARNP

Congratulations to all Florida ARNPs. We have finally been heard! I have taken the advice of Dr. Bednarzyk and written to Governor Scott. I thanked him in advance for the support of the bills HS 423 and SB 676 and let him know that through his signature, he was helping ARNPs provide improved access to care! This is a time for celebration!
What comes next????
Will we need a DEA # ?
I'd like to get started asap.
Thank you and congratulations all!!!
