Judith A. Berg PhD, RN, WHNP-BC, FAAN, FAANP

Dr. Judith A. Berg is a Clinical Professor at the University of Arizona College of Nursing in Tucson, Arizona. She earned her BSN from Oregon Health & Science University and her MSN, WHNP credentials, PhD and Postdoctoral Fellowship in the Center for Symptom Management from the University of California, San Francisco, School of Nursing. She spent 22 years as a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner at Planned Parenthood in the San Francisco Bay area and also served as the Quality Assurance Manager supervising clinicians at company clinic sites and initiating services to women and men related to sexual and reproductive health.

Recruited by the University of Arizona College of Nursing in 1997, Dr. Berg began her academic career as an Assistant then Associate Professor teaching Women’s Health content in the PhD and Nurse Practitioner programs while continuing clinical practice. Currently, she chairs both PhD dissertations and DNP clinical projects for more than 15 students who focus on issues of importance in Women’s Health. As a researcher, Dr. Berg highlighted health promotion and symptom management of women across the lifespan. Her funded research studies included cultural influences on physical activity in Mexican American elder women, the menopause experience of Filipina American women, and nursing strategies for menopause symptom management in breast cancer survivors and Caucasian women. Her past services in professional organizations include President of the Society for Menstrual Cycle Research, President of the Western Institute of Nursing and Chair of the Fellows for the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. Currently she is Lead Co-Chair of the Women’s Health Expert Panel of the American Academy of Nursing. Dr. Berg has published and presented to national and international audiences on sexual and reproductive health issues, menopause-related symptoms, healthy aging, and the health effect of “caring” on midlife and aging women. Dr. Berg was selected as the 2015 Loretta Ford Award recipient by the Fellows of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and considers this one of the greatest achievements in her long career.
