Congratulations: FNPN Member, Dr. Kim Curry, PhD, APRN, FAANP Awarded History Grant Award
Posted about 5 years ago by Jean Aertker
Congratulations to Dr. Kim Curry who was recently awarded, along with co-author Carolyn Torre, NP from New Jersey, a partial research grant from the University of Virginia School of Nursing History Center to study the history of Florida Nurse Practitioners! "The Evolution of State Scope of Practice Laws for Nurse Practitioners in Florida" Kim and Carolyn previously worked on the New Jersey NP History Video Project that was presented at AANP Fellows Meeting. This will be great for Florida NPs to trace and preserve our history!
The award comes from the Eleanor Crowder Bjoring Center for Nursing Historical Inquiry that was established at the University of Virginia in 1991 to support historical scholarship in nursing. Dedicated to the preservation and study of nursing history, the Bjoring Center collects historical materials, promotes nursing history scholarship, and disseminates historical research findings. There are three primary Nursing Research History Centers in the USA, the others are the Virginia Henderson Sigma Theta Tau Library and the other is the Barbara Bates History Center at the University of Pennsylvania.
Also for history enthusiasts, Dr. Curry and Dr. Jean Aertker co-manage the Florida Nursing History Project website. If you are interested in Nursing History or can share some early years of NP formation in Florida - such as old documents, school papers, certificates, photos, articles, personal stories, or memorabilia, please leave a comment below so we can connect!
