Thanks to all who are volunteering to give Covid-19 vaccinations throughout Florida!

Posted over 4 years ago by Jean Aertker

Thousands of APRNS have stepped up to volunteer to administer Covid-19 vaccinations around the state of Florida to eligible groups approved to receive the vaccine. You are all amazing to offer this opportunity and bring a sense of relief to many. We hear your stories!  FNPN Membership Director, Dr. Marcia Johansson at USF College of Nursing and other faculty have been giving vaccinations for several months and were recently able to deliver both doses of Covid-19 vaccine to  Dr. Loretta "Lee" Ford and her daughter and son-in-law at the clinic. Dr. Ford is the co-founder of the NP role in 1965 at the University of Colorado and she was thrilled to have the vaccine given to her by our NP colleagues. Originally trained as a public health nurse, Dr, Ford knows all must decide if the vaccine is good for themselves but at 100 years of age young, she feels the science is strong to help protect all ages from this virus and was eager to secure her vaccinations at USF.  We especially thank Dean Usha Menon and all faculty who joined Dr. Ford for this special event. Dr's. Gail Sadler and Jean Aertker were able to join Dr. Ford as well and enjoyed taking photos of the NP students volunteering as well with Dr,  Ford.  Johansson hails from University of Rochester where Dr. Ford was in the inaugural Dean and who brought the NP role to the school. She retired in 1987 to Florida and remains active consulting, lecturing, and writing about the NP role and health care and her advice to all is simply to "Keep Moving! "
