NP Work Force Bill - PCB-14 - PASSES TODAY !!

Posted about 10 years ago by Jean Aertker

The proposed committee bill (PCB-14) offered by the Select Committee on Health Care Work Force Innovation was passed in committee today- 12 = Yea's, 2 = Excused,  and 2 = NO [Harrel (Stuart) and Swartz (Hollywood)]. The session was long with Rep. (Dr.) Pigman addressing his committee members on the need for this bill and he expertly clarified last minute issues and questions with great aplumb. Public comment followed and Jim Quilan, ARNP and Pam Johnson, ARNP were there to represent FNPN and testify.

The committee bill is now on its way to the Speakers Office to be assigned a bill number and referred to appropriate House committees. Your work as NP advocates is really needed now!

1.  Stop and write a letter of thanks  to all the committee members especially the supporters and especially the Chair, Rep Oliva and Vice-Chair Rep. (Dr.) Pigman for thier vision to make the needed health care workforce changes in Fl.

2. Prepare your messages for your local legislators, call and visit them.

3. Get your patients, fellow nurses, colleagues, family and friends to help us keep this bill moving. Florida deserves better and this bill will bring us parity to other states. Are you with us!!??

REMEMBER THAT YOUR PERSONAL DONATIONS TO THE CANDIATES CANNOT BE GIVEN DURING SESSION, SO YOU CAN DONATE TO THE FNPN PAC ANYTIME.

Many thanks to Rep. Oliva and Dr. Pigman for their support, diligence, patience and devotion to the health care needs of Florida's citizens. Their insight, legislative skill and courage is monumental. Fostering the discussion and bill creation that will allow Advanced Practice Registered Nurses to provide the health care we have been trained and educated to deliver is a wonderful thing to behold. With continued legislative support and the mobilization of activism in the nursing and patient communities, health care in Florida can be substantially improved. Thanks just doesn't seem a big enough word to express my gratitude. Carole Kain, PhD, APRN

After watching the entire proceedings I give a round of applause and thanks to all who participated and special gratitude to Rep. Oliva and Rep. Dr. Pigman for their attention to these issues. Bringing the care standards in Florida to the attention legislators and of all client communities is critical. As ARNP's we are incredibly well educated in all the areas we can have serious impact on the lives of Floridian's and its hoped that this will be recognized fully. Thanks again to all.
