Nov is Home Care and Hospice Month-Support NP Home Health Bill

Posted over 8 years ago by Jean Aertker

NP week shares the month of November in recognizing also our NP colleagues in Home Care and Hospice. The Federal bill we need to pass is - Home Health Care Planning Improvement Act of 2015 Amends title XVIII (Medicare) of the Social Security Act which revises conditions of and limitations on payment for home health care services. It allows payment for home health services to Medicare beneficiaries by: (1) a nurse practitioner, (2) a clinical nurse specialist working in collaboration with a physician in accordance with state law, (3) a certified nurse-midwife, or (4) a physician assistant under a physician's supervision. Sounds like a way to save our tax dollars!

So why not stop now and help AANP get our Florida Members of Congress to co-sponsor the Home Health Care planning and Improvement Act of 2015 (HR1342 and S. 578).  The first version of this bill came out in 2007. Why the delay Congress ??!! Lets get it on the committee list by first gettting all FL co-sponsors. A bill must be passed by both the House and Senate in identical form and then be signed by the President inorder to become law.

Senator Susan Collins (Rep) from Maine has championed this bill for several sessions but we need help! Congressman Walden (Rep) Oregon sponsored the House bill. We currently have 152 co-sponsors in the House (91 Democrats, 61 Republicans -Thanks for co-sponsorship to FL Rep's Alcee Hastings (D) FL20) and Rep Corrine Brown (D) FL5 - but there are no Repbulican Congressional Reps  yet). Senate co-sponsors are 39 (26 Democrats, 12 Republicans, 1 Independent - Senators Rubio and Nelson where are u!?)

FNPN encourages all FL NPs in to reach out this month especially and do "the ask" directly to their Members of Congress through the AANP advocacy site:
